About My Clients
The type of person that finds their way to my practice is most frequently adults 18 and above who are wrestling with burdens and stressors that don't seem to ever quite go away. I also work with high functioning teens, age 15 and above offering additional support to both kids and families as they navigate the many life transitions happening during this time.
My Background and Approach
Born and raised in northwestern Virginia, I was taught a rigid system of principles and beliefs. As life does, I learned through time and experience that life and people much more complex that I was raised to believe. This has taught me to try and listen more than speak and to try and be open and curious as opposed to judgmental (anybody else love Ted Lasso?:). I have spent over 25 years working and volunteering with children, teens and families, 15 of those years directly as a mental health provider. I was trained and practice from a relational, psychodynamic perspective. This means that our work concentrates primarily on exploring unconscious processes, early childhood experiences, and their influence on current thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The goal is to help individuals gain insight into these patterns and develop greater self-awareness and emotional growth.
