About My Clients
I am excited to work with couples who have internal motivation for change and who are seeking to be part of a collaborative team with each of us contributing our own expertise. I enjoy working with couples and individuals who are experiencing anxiety, depression, lack of purpose or meaning, or low self-esteem/ self-worth. I also assist with difficult life transitions/feeling "stuck," and with general relationship issues. I am a strong proponent of communication and assertiveness training.
My Background and Approach
Much of my work is teaching clients how to find ways to embrace difficult feelings and ideas rather than attempting to push them away. By learning to be curious and open to unpleasant experiences, we can begin to realize that they are useful in helping to identify some of the thought and behavior patterns that have led to our frustration/dissatisfaction. Working together to identify different parts of your Self and their individual, often competing needs, is a large part of our work together. I practice mainly from a humanistic perspective, meaning I believe that you, the client, actually have the answers and solutions you are seeking. It is my responsibility to assist you in uncovering this information in a collaborative fashion, and we achieve this using interventions from a host of theoretical orientations. I am looking forward to sharing more about the therapeutic process with you!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Whether you are seeking to address a specific situation or you are interested in taking a general relationship or personal inventory, you're acknowledging that you would like things to be different. What we often don't realize is that change requires taking action, and that in itself is a skill to learn and practice. I truly believe that each client already has their own answers within and that every individual knows what is best for them. It is our job as a team to identify the barriers that prevent access to these solutions and identify ways around these roadblocks. I am excited to meet you and to see how I might be of service.
