Is there something in your life that has to change? Therapy can help you make that change and feel more in control of your life.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Cheshire, CT
I have completed a certificate in DBT and use the skills on a daily basis in my work and in my own life. I particularly use emotion identification, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness skills. If we can figure out how we feel specifically, we can make better choices about what we need and what choices will help us to achieve it.
How can I want something to change so badly, but yet not motivate myself to make the change? Using motivational interviewing we can look at what is making you want to change, what is the specific change you want to make, and what steps can you take TODAY to start making that happen.
Sometimes we don't want to be in therapy forever, but have something in our lives that has to change. I use solution focused brief therapy to focus on what changes you can make from week-to-week, to identify positive skills you're already using, and to find ways to increase your motivation for change.
Extensive experience in counseling on relationship issues, as well as running relationship skills groups. My emphasis is on how to communicate your needs to others to get your needs met within the relationship. Sometimes it can be frustrating when it seems others won't change, but in therapy we can work on how to express yourself in a way where you're more likely to be heard, and how to set realistic expectations.
