About My Clients
I work with a variety of adult clients, but most frequently I see men in their 30's, 40's, or 50's, who are tired of being unhappy, unfulfilled, or of playing roles in life they have been told to play. I help people who want to gain insight into how they got to where they are, to overcome self-defeating behaviors, to be more confident, and to become more comfortable with themselves. I help people who want to lead healthier, more authentic, more rewarding lives.
My Background and Approach
As a doctoral level clinical psychologist, I have a wide variety of training and experience I can apply to my work. This includes working with people on their mental health, with issues of substance abuse or addiction, to help them with their relationships or careers, and to make changes that will impact their physical health as well. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach, so I start by listening to what each client is looking for, what their concerns are, what if any experience they have in therapy or treatment, and how they characterize being helped. I can be more or less structured depending on a client's needs, but always strive to help them to feel heard, understood, cared for, respected, and helped.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I identify as progressive, anti-racist, and respectful and affirming of those who differ in gender, sexual orientation, racial or ethic background, culture, and more. I aim to help everyone who comes to see me and to help them to feel comfortable and respected. I believe you are the expert on your own life and it is up to you to make your own choices and decisions, but I am happy to help you in your journey. I am also always open to answering questions or addressing concerns to the best of my ability. I believe in honesty and prefer to be direct with the people I work with, while being tactful and conveying empathy, sensitivity, and respect.
