About My Clients
I love working with people who don't fit in, especially those that find talk therapy doesn't work for them. If you want a space to process without relying on talking, a space where you can play games or make art or tell me about your favorite fictional character, or a space where metaphor and analogy are encouraged and embraced, play therapy may be a good fit for you.
My Background and Approach
I used to work as a preschool teacher before I decided to go back to school for counseling. I saw firsthand how much our experiences as children affect how we move through the world. When I was in grad school, I was drawn to play therapy because it allows for present moment awareness and embodiment in a way that feels gentle and caring. I also loved play because it felt more collaborative and relational than simply talking. Play requires vulnerability, and so by playing with my clients, I am also practicing vulnerability. My concentration during graduate school was contemplative psychotherapy. I incorporate mindfulness and loving-kindness into the work that I do. Play is very similar to meditation as various thoughts/actions arise and then fall away throughout the play. Because adults tend to rely more on verbal processing, I include space for integration during each session.
