Our couple and family relationships are where we experience our greatest highs and our greatest lows. That’s both wonderful and difficult, frustrating and confusing. But it’s normal. I help people understand what activates their panic, fear and withdrawal in these important relationships, and how they get caught in a negative cycle or pattern. If you can be clear about what you are reacting to, and the stories you tell yourselves about each other and your relationships, you can learn to safely explore those with each other, and learn what is really under the surface. Learning to slow down and communicate more accurate emotional messages has been shown to change relationships and enhance connection, creating the secure bond and safe haven. In my 25 years as a therapist, I have developed specialty areas in adolescent/family therapy, eating disorders, anxiety/depression, marital/couple/relationship therapy, pre-marital therapy and mediation.

I thoroughly appreciate diverse community and I seek to learn and grow from my experiences with others. I think of myself as accepting, flexible, inclusive and open-minded - but also affirming and welcoming of differences. I don't require my clients to educate me about how we are different, but I actively seek these learning opportunities on my own. Therapy can be a collaborative process to challenge dominant cultural narratives that are restrictive or oppressive, and to build preferred narratives instead. My life has been enriched by my practice as a therapist, and I think of it as a life calling as much as a career. I am committed to offering some reduced fee spots for clients who require that, and at this stage of my career enjoy providing consultation and clinical supervision. Regardless of your background, beliefs, nationality/ethnicity, gender or sexual orientation, or any other way your experience may be different from mine, you will find an accepting and safe space for therapy.
