I provide individual counseling for adults struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, anger, trauma, grief, self-esteem, self-care, self-confidence, adjustment issues, relationship and family issues, social and communication skills, OCD, school and occupational problems, daily routine/structure, and ADHD. Through empathy and compassion, I strive to understand your unique context and authentic perspective, and view our counseling relationship as a collaborative endeavor.
My Background and Approach
Previously, I taught in the classroom for 11 years, mindfully creating a supportive and safe environment, meeting the unique social and academic needs of my students, and helping them to build positive self-concepts. Prior to opening my practice, I worked at a thriving private practice gaining invaluable, various experiences with individuals, couples, and families. Once I became a LMHC in November 2017, I was excited and grateful to open my private practice in February 2018 and begin building strong therapeutic relationships with my clients. We can integrate a variety of therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, and narrative therapy; incorporating mindfulness techniques and strategies, coping and calming techniques and strategies, and psycho-education. We will work as a team to identify your goals, then determine which approach(es) best align and feel most beneficial to you towards reaching those goals.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe therapy is about navigating your way towards your most genuine, authentic self. It is not about placing blame or judgement. Instead, it is about replacing blame and judgement (for self and others) with compassion and curiosity. The past does not define you, instead you can safely recognize and honor it, viewing it as part of your building blocks, in order to better understand and honor our present self. This process can feel overwhelming at times, I know. This is why we will work together to break apart those fears and issues into smaller, more manageable pieces. We instinctively tend to push fear, trauma, and shame down into dark, closed-off places within us. We carry it all, often times without even knowing it. Not realizing the power it has over us. Not recognizing how it can ripple into other areas of our lives. We can organically and gradually begin to bring those issues up into the light to reduce their power over you, and to help you feel lighter and more empowered.
