About My Clients
Change is hard--you don't have to struggle alone. You may feel stuck, wondering how you can get out of your self-defeating patterns, move forward from trauma or grief, or gain more self-confidence to reach your goals. If you face systemic oppression due to being BIPOC, LGBTQ, an immigrant, or disabled, you have probably faced even more obstacles to your healing, including in the therapy room. I’m here to help with culturally informed, compassionate care.
My Background and Approach
My practice is named Rising Resilience Counseling because I help clients tap into the strengths they already possess, the ones that have helped them survive up until now, in order to move beyond merely surviving to thriving and enjoying life again. Using mindfulness, breathing, expressive art interventions, and other strategies, we will build your emotional toolbox so you can handle what life throws at you and rise above your challenges. Some of the issues I specialize in are recovery from substance use, supporting family of those who are struggling with addiction, codependency, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. I have experience working with all ages, and my practice serves teens and adults. I have training in person-centered counseling, substance abuse counseling, DBT, expressive art interventions, sandtray therapy and play therapy. Working together, we will formulate a treatment plan that will help you reach your goals using the modalities that are the best fit for you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a mixed-race woman of color with Korean, Polish, and Irish ancestry. My mother was an immigrant to this country, and I was blessed to be raised with both Korean and American culture prominent in my household. I love working with adult and teen clients of various backgrounds, especially leaning into those difficult conversations about what it means to be BIPOC or member of another marginalized group in our society. I work from a culturally-informed, person-centered framework where I meet the client where they are at and celebrate the parts of their identity that make them who they are. I believe in working beyond mere symptom management in order to help clients feel more connected, integrated, and authentic in the way they show up in the world. This may mean exploring and challenging societal, cultural, or familial messaging that may no longer serve you, as well as identifying your core values and how you can become more attuned to them in order to live more congruently.
