About My Clients
Have you experienced the loss of a loved one? Have you experienced estrangement? Have you undergone a profound identity shift and are trying to reconcile who you are with who you were? As someone who has dealt with various kinds of loss in my personal life, I understand that grief can show up in unexpected ways and can make us feel profoundly lost and alone. I want to help you understand and navigate your grief so that you can rediscover your joy on the other side of loss.
My Background and Approach
Using techniques honed over a decade of working with people, I'll help you cultivate self-compassion as you navigate the depression, anxiety, and uncertainty that accompanies grief and loss. We'll work through a holistic lens, understanding how emotions show up in the body and how to use body-based techniques to bring your feelings back to a tolerable level. As the stories we tell about our lives and ourselves directly impact how we manage grief and loss, we'll also use narrative therapy techniques to help you understand the stories you have carried with you. My goal for you is to develop concrete tools to reframe and shift perspective as needed to challenge unhelpful narratives. You'll be able to gain insight into your feelings and reactions and work in real time to understand, accept, and manage your emotions. Over time, you'll be able to work through the tasks of grief and integrate your loss into your greater life story, neither letting it define you nor minimizing its impact.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Throughout our lives, we are told over and over again who we are or who we should be, and whether we fight against those narratives or embrace them, we come to be defined by them. Throughout my own journey in therapy, I have learned to challenge those stories and break free from the expectations of others. I have created a new narrative of who I have been and, more importantly, who I can be. I want everyone to be able to experience the freedom and joy of defining themselves and living their best lives. I believe that all bodies are good bodies, that love is love, and that "none of us can be free until everybody is free". There can be no fight for improved mental health without also fighting for social justice. I use compassion, curiosity, and creativity as my fundamental values and primary tools for navigating the world. If you share those values or want to learn more, message me so I can help you better live them in your daily life.
