About My Clients

Are you struggling, and you can't figure out how to fix it? Maybe you're adjusting to a new life change, like parenting or job loss, and looking to find your identity. Maybe you're becoming aware of a problematic pattern in your life, like constant anxiety, difficulty with relationships, or intense emotions. You don't have to feel overwhelmed by depression, anxiety, shame, or anger any more. Let's talk about what's going on and find some strategies to soothe it now, and stop it from reoccurring.

My Background and Approach

My background has been working with people with the most intense emotions and in the most difficult situations. I started my social work career working with the homeless, and have continued with people from all walks of life, most often working with people with personality disorders/intense emotions. We will work together to explore what's creating stress in your life, and how to manage what's within your control about it. We will work on building coping skills to reduce intense emotions so you can solve problems, repair relationships, set boundaries, ask for what you need, and take care of yourself. I use treatment modalities like DBT, CBT, and ACT, but all that means is that we'll pick some special tools to help you change your relationship with your emotions, thoughts, and priorities. You'll leave each session with a plan for how to use the hard work you did in the session in your real life. My goal is that you always leave a session feeling a little better than before you started.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I don't think anyone is beyond help. No matter how unworthy or shameful you feel, I'm never going to agree with you. Instead, I'm going to be your biggest cheerleader, someone who celebrates you when you struggle to celebrate yourself. I know therapy can feel intimidating, so my goal is to be the opposite of that. I express myself best through a dry sense of humor, and love to use that to develop a relationship with clients. I appreciate blunt talk without you feeling like you need to censor yourself. I am a firm believer in the inherent worth and dignity of all people, and support all social causes which affirm this. I am adamant about supporting your pronouns and the name that feels good for you, and if your name or pronouns change during therapy, just let me know!
