About My Clients
I enjoy working with individuals and couples and my main areas of focus with clients are with life transitions, grief and loss (including pet loss), eating disorders (binge eating disorder only currently), and work well with the LGBTQIA+ community and college age students. I enjoy working with anxiety and depression, as we work together to find ways to make small but meaningful changes. I find that I work best with people who are seeking change and who are willing to try something different.
My Background and Approach
My style and approach are unique due to my clinical background, and my counseling training which includes blended approaches from Eastern and Western traditions. I find person-centered, strength-based, and solution-focused therapy to be the most common approaches used in my practice, however, I enjoy utilizing acceptance commitment therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), EMDR, Mindfulness and Meditation, Positive Psychology, Narrative Therapy, Art Therapy, and others. I am currently in dissertation phase of my PhD researching the somatic experience of awe.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Contemplative psychotherapy offers a different approach to mental health by focusing on the individual’s “brilliant sanity” which refers to the awareness and reason that is always within a person, even if it sometimes gets buried by confusion or anxiety. By using that lens in therapy, awareness and compassion for oneself are more easily accessible which provides a catalyst for change, growth, self-inquiry, and self-discovery. I have a wide range of experience including being a school counselor, hospice counselor, adoption counselor, and most recently an eating disorder counselor. I am an LGTBQIA+ ally.
