About My Clients
I am passionate about helping people cultivate a deeper understanding of, and relationship to, their self, their identities, and the world around them. I primarily work with queer and trans individuals, so this often involves an exploration of gender and sexuality, racial identity, self-beliefs and body trust, and learning to navigate one's inner wisdom and sense of self.
My Background and Approach
The foundation of my training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy and compassionate inquiry. Both of these models emphasize the role of childhood traumas (big and small) on our self-concept and the lens through which we view the world. Together, we will identity the patterns and beliefs that are no longer working for you and begin the process of understanding and healing the underlying wounds. Inner child work and bringing awareness to embodied experience are often key parts of this healing process.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I practice with a queer, intersectional feminist, anti-oppression, weight neutral lens. I aim to honor the whole person, to hold each individual’s unique, intersectional identities with an understanding that these influence how we engage and are engaged by others. In therapy, this will sometimes involve unpacking internalized beliefs and prejudices, while other times we may simply hold together the impacts and grief of oppressive systems and personal experiences of prejudice. I welcome clients of all races, ages, sexualities, gender identities, religions, backgrounds, and sizes. I also recognize that it can sometimes be helpful to work with counselors who share our identities (especially if those identities are presently/historically marginialized and oppressed). I am happy to chat about how our differences may show up in the therapeutic space and offer references if you would prefer working with a counselor of shared-experience
