Hi, I'm Jean! I’m here to support you with empathy, compassion and expertise. My goal is to empower you in every step of the process!

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in ANN ARBOR, MI

About My Clients

My clients are motivated and insightful, creative and curious about themselves and the world, open to new ways of doing therapy, looking for long-term change and embrace the idea that healing is a journey, and want to experience more joy and savor meaningful moments in life. You may notice old stuff keeps showing up or feel blindsided by big reactions to everyday situations; you feel on edge, panicky, overwhelmed, or shut down. Maybe you have nightmares or flashbacks or difficulty focusing.

My Background and Approach

I'm an experienced, certified EMDR therapist & EMDRIA Consultant with extensive training in advanced EMDR techniques, somatic approaches such as Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Polyvagal Therapy & Brainspotting, and attachment-focused therapies like Internal Family Systems (IFS), Developmental Needs Meeting Strategy (DNMS) and Imaginal Nurturing. My approach is client-centered, compassion-focused and strengths-based. I’m passionate about helping people lead their best lives and thrive. Talk therapy can be helpful, but sometimes it’s not enough. Because “the body keeps the score,” we need to help our mind, body and emotions all get on the same page so we can put overwhelming and painful experiences in the past and focus on feeling good in the present. EMDR—a leading evidence-based therapy for processing overwhelming or traumatic experiences—can be powerfully life-changing! Customized EMDR Intensives can be an efficient and powerful way to get the permanent change you want.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that everybody can grow and change at any time in their lives. I believe we get to choose what stories support us in the present moment. I believe that "the body keeps the score" and that somatic EMDR+IFS helps us resolve and release old beliefs about ourselves and legacy burdens. I believe in the power of perspective-taking and self-compassion in healing our parts that hold shame. As a child, I suffered from anxiety and perfectionism. Through therapy, I have learned how to notice and respond to my anxious thoughts and feelings and I have learned to practice compassion when I have those difficult feelings. Outside of work, you'll find me singing with the Singing Resistance, playing with improv and community theater, advocating for affordable, accessible housing for everyone through More Neighbors A2, and volunteering with the Humanitarian Assistance Program (HAP)/Trauma Recovery Network. In a past life, I earned a PhD in English literature, focusing on postcolonial studies.

I offer online counseling in the following states:
