About My Clients
At a very young age children are able to communicate their needs. For some, this is difficult to access. I believe building a safe and trusting relationship provides children and young teens an opportunity to access needs. I am eager to work with parents and caregivers to create a collaborative environment to discover needs and provide education for parents on how to develop skills for success. Parent consultation and collaboration helps parents creates a foundation of growth for the family.
My Background and Approach
I utilize cognitive-behavioral, sensorimotor regulation, mindfulness, as well as art and play therapies. Art and play therapy are useful in helping children put words to their feelings and experiences in a safe environment. As a school counselor, I am excited to extend my passion for supporting children and adolescents in their social and emotional well-being. I have extensive knowledge navigating school struggles with typical and challenging behaviors. Prior to working as a school counselor, I was director of an extended school year program Seattle Children’s Hospital Bellevue. This program served students with Autism and ASD. I also worked with individual children on at-home programs with the goal of increasing social and life skill behaviors. I am a fully licensed mental health counselor with my doctorate in community care and counseling specializing in traumatology.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The global pandemic has increased the need for children and teen support in the area of mental health. As a school counselor for nearly 20 years, I have established relationships with numerous students and seen the increase in students wanting a supportive adult. I am proud to be their advocate.
