About My Clients
Most of my clients are LGBTQ+ couples who have run out of road, same-sex partners who love each other but keep hitting the same wall. Others are gay, lesbian, bi, or trans individuals untangling what it meant to grow up in a faith community that told them they were wrong. Some are doctors, nurses, paramedics, police officers, or firefighters who are functioning fine at work and quietly falling apart everywhere else. If any of that sounds familiar, you're in the right place.
My Background and Approach
I've been doing couples work for over 15 years. I use the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Relational Life Therapy (Terry Real), and the Developmental Model, which together give me a lot of different ways in when a couple is stuck. Gottman's research includes same-sex couples specifically, and I've trained in Joe Kort's affirming clinical model, which goes beyond basic acceptance to address the actual developmental experiences of LGBTQ+ people. That difference matters in the room. For couples, the work is concrete: we look at what's breaking down, why it keeps happening, and what to do differently. For individuals working through religious deconstruction, we go at the pace you need, whether that means questioning everything or rebuilding something new. For high-stakes professionals, burnout has a specific shape, and I don't treat it like general stress. I also do discernment counseling for couples deciding whether to stay, and affair recovery for those who choose to.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a gay woman who grew up Southern and religious. I know what it's like to be told your faith and your identity can't coexist, and I've lived through family estrangement because of it. That's not backstory I mention for credibility. It's the reason I do this work, and it directly shapes how I sit with clients who are in the middle of that same unraveling. Outside of the office, I volunteer with organizations serving the unhoused population in the Denton area and with local animal rescues. I'm also a supporter of the Black Tie Dinner in DFW, one of the longest-running LGBTQ+ fundraising events in the country. I'm based in Denton and see clients in person and via telehealth across Texas. I believe good therapy is direct and honest, not polished. I'd rather tell you something useful than something comfortable.
