About My Clients

Are you interested in therapy but don't know where to begin? Perhaps being true to yourself and relating to others seems to be an issue for you? Either way, my purpose here is to assist you on your journey to becoming, healing, exploring, processing, and any other goals that you may have for yourself. Looking at the whole person, I aim to obtain a sound understanding of what brought you to therapy and tailor our sessions to your needs.

My Background and Approach

As a facilitator of growth and change, Jawan practices from an eclectic approach. Conceptualizing the whole client, Jawan’s approach is honest and direct, and infused with techniques from Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy; however, geared towards the desired goals and outcomes of the client. If you’re comfortable with a push and a challenge, using therapeutic techniques that are designed to your needs, our partnership in developing and maintaining a safe and effective relationship will be the foundation.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that each of us has a story and that the meaning we've made from our stories are what shapes who we become. However, when exploring and processing these meanings and identifying the places of unfinished business, we often run into areas that we've told ourselves are too hard to revisit or unpack and these are the spaces that cause mental and behavioral health issues. All of us, regardless of race, religion, creed, sexuality, etc., have been given a packed bag by both the people and environments that raised us. And while some of the items in this bag may have been useful at some points in our lives, what worked for us at 10 may not be working at 21 and that's ok. However, working to identify maladaptive patterns and unhealthy behaviors to replace them with healthy coping skills is where the work begins. Although therapy is not the only way to heal, it is a way to begin your healing journey, and I would love to be your co-pilot.
