About My Clients

Much of my clinical practice is focused on couples therapy, helping navigate the many challenges that come from having an enduring relationship. I also provide psychotherapy focused on executive-level and corporate leadership stresses. I have extensive experience with families and individuals affected by neurodegenerative illness, like Alzheimer disease. This involves cognitive testing services as well as counseling.

My Background and Approach

My approach is a mix of therapeutic models. I use short-term cognitive-behavioral models, which are great for people with phobias, panic attacks, depression or with compulsive behaviors. I also use long-term psychodynamic approaches, which are wonderful for uncovering prior trauma and helping reconcile current feelings with earlier experiences and triggers. My work with couples follows a Gottman-like approach, with the goal to create a safe setting where we can focus on improving communication, acceptance, and overall the relationship.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Since the beginning of my clinical training, I've been connected to the LGBTQ community, as my care has always been provided to a broad range of people. I trained at the Los Angeles County 5P21 HIV/AIDs Clinic in the early 1990s, before it was renamed for Rand Schrader. I also believe that all people who are seeking help from me merit my respect and empathy, and I enjoy when the people I work with have different perspectives than me. That's easy to find living in Orange County!
