About My Clients
I can best help clients who are experiencing depression and anxiety, dissatisfied with life, experiencing an existential crises, deconstructing from religion, or experiencing general ennui.
My Background and Approach
My background includes a Masters degree in Social Work and 2 years of post-graduate training in clinical counseling. I have worked in the government sector at child protective services, and UT Health. Where I worked with children, parents, families, caregivers, individuals with a recent hospitalization due to suicidal ideation, and those living with serious mental illness like schizophrenia. My therapeutic approach primarily relies on Third Wave Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. I help individuals explore their thoughts and beliefs, how those shape the way they perceive and respond to the world, and how to find more useful alternatives. As part of that approach I teach secular based mindfulness when appropriate, and emotional coping skills when necessary.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The Nahuatl speaking people who were a part of what we now consider the Aztec nation held the belief that, the world is slippery, to live well you must live a rooted life. The ancient greeks thought that living a good life required developing the spirit of Eudaimonia. Buddhist recognized the inherent suffering of life and prescribed their own solution in the 8-fold path. I believe that there are systematic challenges to living well that we all must face to varying degrees. But all can improve their mental wellbeing with intention, direction, and effort. It is a process that differentiates simply existing from living. There is a science to happiness that we can all learn.
