Integrative therapy is a modern form of psychotherapy that combines different therapeutic tools and approaches to best fit the needs of the individual client. With an understanding of normal human development, an integrative therapist modifies standard treatments to fill in development gaps that affect each client in different ways.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a goal-oriented talk-treatment method that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people’s difficulties, and so it changes the way they feel. It is used to help treat a variety of issues in a person’s life, from sleeping difficulties or relationship problems, to drug and alcohol abuse or anxiety and depression.
Mindfulness can be incorporated into other therapeutic modalities as part of an integrated approach to treatment. Even small negative thoughts can accumulate and/or spiral out of control, leading to concerns such as depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Designed to deliberately focus a person’s attention on the present experience in a way that is non-judgmental, mindfulness-based interventions may offer benefit to people seeking therapy for any number of concerns.
