About My Clients

If you're experiencing addictive patterns (either to substances or behaviors), I can help you find autonomy even if you feel you're self-sabotaging. You've probably recognized that "managing bad habits" only leads to more suffering, so I focus on the holistic purpose of compulsion. I am also adept at addressing men's issues, trauma, anxiety, and depression. Anyone who is committed to self-reflection will benefit from my non-pathologizing, personality-based approach to emotional balance.

My Background and Approach

The root of my approach is psychodynamic, that is, exploring how the discomfort in your life is a result of your unconscious desires. People in therapy with me have an opportunity to find freedom through awareness of their personality's impact on what happens around them. While it may seem funny that something like addiction, anxiety, or depression is something that you "choose", I have consistently found that those I work with discover self-compassion, confidence, and courage when they are clear that their circumstances come from unfinished emotional business. Holistic health principles suggest that there is always something wise in our mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual reactions. Together, we can discover how the parts of your personality uphold a life script that supported you when you were young, and may benefit from some updating. Theories from MBTI, Enneagram, Internal Family Systems, transactional analysis, and shadow integration support our investigations.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Too often we come to view health as a matter of reducing symptoms through control and management. True wellness, I have found, is a matter of embracing the entirety of oneself, not getting rid of our conquering the parts of us that we do not like or understand. The perspective offered by the DSM, that we need pills because we have diseases, is not only disheartening, but deeply inaccurate. Having studied stages of human growth, from cognition, to character, to scripts, to identity, I know that the pain that we feel is always connected to the gifts that we are destined to develop. Daily, I feel motivated to explore how symptoms can become our greatest teachers. I'm committed to a new story in which we remember that we are more than the sum of our parts, that we are more than animals existing separately from each other, and that life is more than suffering without a purpose. Recognition of our ultimate meaning is right around the corner, with just a little prodding into our stories.
