About My Clients
Do you sometimes feel anxious but don't know why? Do you feel a little unhappy or sad, and think "maybe I have depression"? Is there a nagging inner voice saying negative things about you? Maybe you've become short-tempered, which is affecting your personal and professional life. Together we will gently explore what may be causing these uncomfortable feelings and negative behaviors. With this knowledge you will begin to return to your true authentic self. I will accompany you on this journey.
My Background and Approach
In more than 2 decades as a therapist I have helped people from all walks of life, with problems such as yours. I create a safe place where you will explore your feelings and behavior without shame or judgment. I can help you stop beating yourself up because of the "shoulds" which may be dominating your thoughts. We all carry false beliefs about ourselves which we learned in childhood. We will gently explore the roots of these beliefs, but I will not force you to go beyond your comfort level at that time. When we learn how these feelings and beliefs originated and how they affect your decision and behaivor, you can begin to make the changes necessary to achieve the fulfilling life you are entitled to. I will be there with you every step of the way, if you allow me. Your true self and your true potential will emerge from the sadness and anxiety into the light.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that by getting to know ourselves--our strengths, frailties, fears, and beliefs about ourselves--life will become more peaceful and fulfilling. In the 30+ years since I received my MSW from Hunter College I have worked in many areas of mental health with people from all walks of life. I know firsthand--both from my clients' experiences and my own--that change is not only possible but often necessary if we are to live our best life. After living for 25 years in Florida I realized that I needed to change my life and recently decided to brave the cold, snow, and high rents to move back to the city I missed. As a therapist I tend to be down-to-earth, outspoken when necessary, and I have a good sense of humor. I am also a Clinical Hypnotherapist and am experienced in Breath Work and Eye Movement Therapy.
