About My Clients
Becoming a parent changes you in ways you couldn’t imagine and brings a new level of struggle and joy to life. Every day brings a different challenge — and you give it your best, but this job didn’t come with a handbook! So when your child goes through something traumatic, you’re completely at a loss. What’s the right way to respond to these confusing behaviors? How do you help your child understand what’s happened to them? You want to guide them through this experience, but you don’t know how.
My Background and Approach
I graduated with a master’s degree in Counseling and Psychological Service from Saint Mary’s University in 2015. I have supported both adults and children through major stressors and transitions in their lives, and found my passion working as a reunification and high-conflict play therapist, helping families and kids heal from traumatic life experiences. By creating a safe space in therapy, I use play-based approaches to teach your child strategies for calming and regulating their body and making sense of the confusing reactions and feelings they are having. I help children rebuild their sense of autonomy and control, so they can get unstuck and unfrozen and begin to feel and act like themselves again. As a parent, you're the one who knows your child best and will be there day in and day out after therapy is over -- so I work closely with you to guide and coach you on how to best support your child.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I try to show up and be present for my clients as a warm-hearted, kind, and compassionate professional. I believe it's important to understand every child and family's unique circumstances and backgrounds--instead of making assumptions about you, I take the time to hear your story and really listen to what you have to say.
