At the end of my graduate training, I have had ACT training and extensive supervision. I have co-lead ACT-based groups and attended a number of intensive workshops and continuing education events over the years. I have been incorporating ACT into my work throughout my career in private practice.

I have had extensive training and supervision in CBT in graduate school, and have continued attending various CBT training opportunities throughout my career. In my private practice, I sometimes use CBT as the only modality, but most often in combination with mindfulness-based approaches. I find that specific CBT techniques can be powerful, especially when combined with a strong background of self-compassion and non-judgmental presence.

I have had extensive training and supervision in MI in graduate school. I have then practiced MI in several medical settings to assist in generating behavioral change. I have subsequently trained student medical providers in MI as well. I continue using it in my practice, sometimes as the primary modality, and often in combination with other methods, to promote change.

During my graduate training in health psychology, I have gained expertise in working with illness and caregiver burnout. As my practice expanded, I gained experience in recognizing and addressing other types of burnout, including work and family burnout. Depending on the stage and intensity of the burnout, I offer tools to help gain awareness, recognize and step out of the unhelpful patterns, recover from burnout symptoms, and prevent future burnout.

My work with anxiety disorders started with extensive coursework and training in graduate school and continued throughout my postgraduate career. I have learned and practiced CBT, ACT, and mindfulness-based methods to assist clients experiencing various forms of anxiety. Over time, I have incorporated reel relaxation training and biofeedback to assist people whose anxiety has been manifesting through physical symptoms.

I received in-depth training in health psychology in graduate school, and worked as a member of pain management teams at the VA and several other medical centers (3 years), weight-related medical conditions (2 years), primary care psychology (2 years), cancer (2 years), tinnitus (1 year), and later all of the above in private practice (7 years). I have experience working with mental health concerns that might accompany medical illness, as well as physical symptoms of mental distress.
