About My Clients
My clients are people willing to consider that change occurs outside of their comfort zone, in an effort to dive deeper. People who would like to make lasting changes, explore how their past shapes how they function today and work to learn and employ new conclusions and coping strategies. My clients show up and work hard, including work outside of sessions.
My Background and Approach
My belief is that as we grow and experience life, we develop skill and coping strategies that work well in the envirnment we learned them, but as our life changes, those strategies may no longet be affective or helpful to us and the ones we love. I also believe that we draw conclusions about ourselves and our abilities, talents and skills that may not be valid. My work is designed to assist in exploring these strategies and conclusions so that we can devop ones that work for us in our current environment and ones that bring out our best characteristics.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. I think the main reason we develop mental health issues is because they are unhealthy learned behaviors that we have picked up along the way. Which means that I think you can unlearn the faulty behaviors and replace them with healthy ones. I am an incest survivor, a survivor of rape, a cancer survivor; I am survivoing the loss of a child to suicide and I have fought hard to build a good marriage in the face of impossible odds. Through my own therapy, I learned that life is a journey and although I would have much rather read a book about me traumas, my journey has afforded me incredible grace and compassion that I don;t think people can get any other way. I don't discriminate against anyone. I make it a point to participate in marches and community actions that support unseen, unheard and devalued people of our communities.
