I have spent most of my life working with those who feel that life does not work for them, supporting pragmatically earlier in my career and then turning to inward struggles. Clients often come with acute issues that need to be addressed, but full recovery requires deeper work that recognizes the hurt life has caused us from which we need healing. In counseling I offer full acceptance, listen with deep empathy, and work with you to find resolution, helping you move from actions and thoughts that limit and harm you into ways that help you and your relationships flourish. We will also look deeper into how your early life experience harmed and limited you from your true heart and vibrant relationships. Through years of counseling with singles and couples, I have learned that the first step is the hardest and most important, the step to begin healing by reaching out for help. I grew up in a conservative Christian community and family and lived out that conviction through religious studies and work until my view was dramatically opened up by a deep understanding of the grace of God that I had never understood before. My whole faith was reorganized away from fear, shame, and dogma into compassion, acceptance, and inclusion. I was always drawn to issues of economic inequality and social and racial justice, but I became much more attuned to systemic oppression and my own privilege. I have also been deeply concerned for those harmed by the church, especially those who still struggle with those relationships. Discovering the inner harm from my own past led me into a desire to focus on supporting others into a journey of healing and hope on the road of compassion. For clients who find faith an important part of their journey, I invite us to explore that together, but my core value is compassion which is much bigger than religious beliefs. Love will win.
