About My Clients
I work with adults who experienced childhood neglect/abuse or had dismissive or invalidating caregivers growing up. I also work closely with other trauma survivors or those who've experienced disturbing life events or experience depression and/or anxiety. Clients I've worked with include (but not limited to): adult children of invalidating or dismissive parents, adult children of alcoholic/addictive parents, first & second-generation immigrants, and sexual abuse survivors.
My Background and Approach
My approach to therapy is structured with warmth and validation. I believe therapy should be a balance of feeling challenged, but also feeling safe and understood. I am NOT a therapist who will let you vent for an hour. Exactly how therapy looks will depend on what best fits each person. I will work collaboratively with you to decide which treatment modality is best and help you define goals to guide you to a place of inner peace. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and am EMDR-Certified (a step up from being trained) and use this along with CBT and other somatic-work and attachment-based modalities to assist adults heal from long-standing childhood trauma/neglect or recent traumatic incidents. Visit my website to see if EMDR might be right for you!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am LGBTQ+ affirming and have no strong religious alliance, so many who align similarly tend to feel most comfortable with myself. I never impose my own values or beliefs on others, although I do challenge clients whose belief systems were imposed by abusive or neglectful caregivers growing up, as these are often held by shame or guilt. I help clients identify their own belief systems that fits their true self and instill how to set boundaries to feel authentic to themselves.
