About My Clients

My practice focuses on making you feel safe, comfortable, and confident. As a client you will likely find me using humor and relatable stories, but always striving to meet your specific needs in the present moment. Clients often find our sessions to be helpful in relaxing and recharging. I especially enjoy building relationships with LGBTQI clients. As a gay man in Atlanta who survived “coming out” as a young adult , I can identify with LGBTQ+ culture while providing genuine support.

My Background and Approach

James was previously a therapist at both the Atlanta Center for Eating Disorders (ACE) and Care and Counseling Center of Georgia (CCCG), having been instrumental in launching several group therapy options at these centers. He holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University with top honors and is a member of the American Counseling Association, Chi Sigma Iota International Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. James is licensed in the state of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor ID# LPC009891 and is also certified as a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a certified Prepare/Enrich pre-marital counselor. James is active with the LGTBQ community and is a lifetime member of the LGBTQ Therapist Resource Group. He is currently serving as President on the Board of this group. He is also a member of the Association for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues in Counseling and the Atlanta Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

In addition to my professional training and experience as a counselor, I understand how difficult it can be to overcome worry, fear, and pain. I had a challenging childhood, and was also forced to overcome my fears and other obstacles when “coming out” as a young adult. My childhood desires for safety, stability and affirmation helped to shape my personality and my deep empathy for others. My personal experiences along with my therapeutic approach help me in expressing compassion for your pain as I help you to heal it. Research shows that the relationship between client and therapist is the most important factor in helping people overcome hurdles and improve their lives. To this end, I am dedicated to creating a safe, comfortable space and a trusting relationship with you as you work towards achieving your goals. However discouraged you might feel, there is always a way through your struggles to a more fulfilling life. I’m committed to helping you get there.
