About My Clients
Most of my clients come in for help with anxiety, trauma, or a "quarter life crisis" of some kind. See my website (www.tartellcounseling.com) to learn more about the types of clients I typically see. Some are exhausted and on the verge of burnout. Others feel lonely and disconnected, struggling quietly with anxiety and self-critical thoughts. They may put work or other people first, rather than acknowledging their own wants and needs. But it's not working and they're ready to make some changes.
My Background and Approach
I believe therapy should be personalized and that clients should develop some concrete skills and tools, while also learning a lot about themselves over time. Sessions are conversational and feedback-oriented. I work with different therapeutic approaches (CBT, ACT, EMDR, psychodynamic) to best meet the needs of each client. My clients and I work actively to understand and change patterns of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that have been running on autopilot and bringing them down. We also explore the ways in which childhood and life experiences, as well as cultural and societal influences, have shaped them. I use EMDR therapy for treatment of trauma, which can come from any life event that you found upsetting or painful at the time.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Trauma is universal and I strongly believe everyone has the right to heal. My question is never "what's wrong with you?" but rather, "what happened to you?" And in attempting to answer the latter question, it's important that we consider experiences throughout your entire lifespan, as well as systems of oppression and sociocultural contexts.
