About My Clients
My clients are men and women facing life's difficulties, whatever they may be. I also work with medical professionals facing burnout and trauma from Covid and other issues around being a caregiver. I am comfortable and familiar with the issues facing veterans as well. I am LGBTQIA+ allied, and am familiar with and welcome those whose families are composed in all sorts of ways.
My Background and Approach
I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings, including community mental health and my own private practice. I work from a person-centered approach using the psychodynamic and psychoanalytic techniques. I am trained in and familiar with Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Internal Family Systems Theory, and existential psychotherapy. I am dedicated to serving clients as the whole, complex, and wonderful beings that they are and will tailor therapy to the needs of the individual person before me.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that our bodies, minds, and hearts, constitute an original and whole Self, which can often become overwhelmed in the course of life. When we are traumatized we often retreat into ourselves, protecting ourselves with attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors that are ultimately no longer helpful. When we are overwhelmed, we benefit from the caring company of others. When I work with clients, I aim to be that caring other who helps to create a safe, welcoming space into which to emerge and be helped. Relationships are often where we are harmed and relationships are definitely where we are helped and where we heal.
