If you're feeling stuck in patterns that repeat themselves, want to find a greater sense of understanding so that you can make choices you're more satisfied with in life, and make meaning of it all, psychodynamic therapy could be a good fit for you. What most people think of when they say "therapy," psychodynamic therapy is basically an open, non-judgmental conversation with a therapist who can help guide you on your journey of building insight and improving your life's circumstances.
I’ve been working with people from all walks of life dealing with substance use and addiction challenges for the last 10 years. I have extensive training and experience in Motivational Interviewing, the current leading evidence-based practice to help people explore their relationship to drugs and alcohol. I have also provided trainings on substances and Motivational Interviewing to groups and treatment providers in the Bay Area and Los Angeles.
Harm Reduction work involves instilling hope, focusing on safety, and not waiting for someone to go through the pain and lasting damage of hitting “rock bottom.” For over two years, I ran a Harm Reduction residential program for veterans, and now I supervise a Drop-In counseling center for veterans with a Harm Reduction focus. I have attended the national Harm Reduction conference and learned from some of the leaders of this progressive approach to helping people who use substances.
Relationships, either romantic, with family, or with friends, can often be the greatest source of comfort and the greatest source of stress for us in our lives. If you're feeling stuck or need support, want help building insight or setting boundaries, I hope I can help.
Whether you're working the steps or want to explore a Harm Reduction approach, I have experience working with people self-medicating with all manner of substances and everything that comes with it. I ran a Harm Reduction a residential program for veterans in the Tenderloin, attended the national Harm Reduction conference, and learned from some of the leaders of this progressive approach to helping people who use substances. If you pursue abstinence, I'm happy to support you through that as well.
Many people can have a few drinks or party without a problem. Maybe that used to be you or someone in your family and something changed. Maybe a loved one or medical professional told you to cut down or quit. No matter who you are and what you’re dealing with, your situation is unique. I am passionate about providing a judgment-free space for you to have someone to confide in and get the support you’re looking for.
