About My Clients

Maybe at one point it all made sense -- your feelings, sensations, and reactions (even the dark and heightened ones) felt known and even comforting. Now you are looking for a new way to endure and thrive. If you are someone who believes that each of us know our own wounds, that we possess a strong inner wisdom, and that we have the ability to access the latent potential to grow and change – or, you want to believe – you will find a good fit with me and my therapeutic offerings.

My Background and Approach

My approach is creative and affirming, focusing on strengths and obstacles as you define them and the world around you. I incorporate Feminist therapy, Liberation psychotherapy, Existential psychology, and Buddhist psychology. I draw from a foundation in trauma-informed-care, and am committed to continue to grow in my multicultural competence. I am person-centered and, taking cues from you, will likely weave creative expression into our process. I have many years' experience with evidence-based practices as a hospital therapist, on both the psychiatric and the medical sides. I bring a background in art and museums and passion for equity and inclusion to my work. I encourage the use of art (looking, exploring, and making) in my therapeutic process, and also lean upon a range of approaches from traditional talk therapy. I am licensed in Washington State as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and am nationally certified by the Art Therapy Credentials Board as an art therapist (ATR).

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

The Western medical approach to mental health has been dominated by beliefs and frames of reference that, while striving to heal, have been noninclusive and harmful to many. Western psychology has found through research and scientific process what was already known to many indigenous and non-Western peoples: that each human being has the innate wisdom to heal and thrive (often with creative and compassionate support from others). Yet the profession has struggled to put these concepts into practice, leaving many people out. I am committed to examining my own presence and contributions through this lens, and to making continual corrections in this context, in an effort to help heal. To that end, I celebrate all identities and all abilities in all bodies, and I strive to destigmatize mental health and support my clients with cultural humility in our work together.
