About My Clients

I do my best work with the people most like my people; queer, trans, leftist at least, and usually anxious, often nonmonogamous. I work with individuals, dyads, triads, etc. I am particularly interested in trauma-work, disassociation, and navigating relational difficulties of any kind.

My Background and Approach

The first thing needed in therapy is the space to be honest; to know or not know what is going on with you, and to be able to express that, however you can. I work to offer such a space through consistency, experience, and warmth. My theoretical approach is informed by EMDR, DBT, and dialectical materialist theory. This means that I consider trauma and history as active ingredients in current life circumstances, while also trying to manage emotional experience and build relevant skills. It also means that I do not consider therapy to be the only form of healing; that community, connection, and awareness are also key to a more whole and healthy life.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Many of our problems are only problems because of the structure of our society. That certain types of minds, bodies, and emotions are unacceptable is only due to the very particular features and functions of our society. Because of this, I try to see each individuals experience as it is, not through a lens of a particular moral framework. I nevertheless acknowledge the need to still live within these frameworks, to manage our own urges within society. But I do not work toward conformity. I try to help my clients toward a better understanding of and access to the whole of themselves, or what Marx called their"species-being." This is to acknowledge and seek to fulfill the fullest range of human need; social, creative, expressive, emotional, and generative. This is to acknowledge that many of our pains and difficulties come from these needs going unmet.
