Counselor in Denver, CO
I have years of counseling experience supporting clients of all gender and sexuality expressions. I carry a lifetime of experience living as a sexual minority in both homophobic and more supportive contexts. I'm experienced supporting clients through the process of Queer identity development, connection with Queer community and community resources, and the navigation of the social intersections with non-Queer family, friends, coworkers, and society.
Our anxiety symptoms often come from learning histories which taught us to feel unsafe, either in specific circumstance or generally. I support clients in identifying the specific learning histories which have left their nervous systems feeling chronically unsafe. Using stress-management strategies to reduce anxiety symptoms in the present, I also provide EMDR to address the root of the anxiety itself, supporting nervous systems to experience and maintain states of safety and relaxation.
I employ a cutting-edge method of healing known as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), to heal the wounds of past traumas – liberating clients from histories of distress, and allowing them to live genuine, full, and connected lives in the present. I combine EMDR with methods informed by somatic counseling, polyvagal theory, and parts work, supporting clients to reach and maintain regulated nervous system states within a context of self-compassion.
I completed my EMDR training through the HAP Institute in 2020. I have been consistently using EMDR in my practice since this time. I use EMDR to support my clients to heal the wounds of past disturbances which still affect them today – liberating persons from histories of distress, and allowing them to live authentic and connected lives in the present.
I believe the rewarding process of repairing our connection with ourselves and others can only take place in relationships built with warmth, authenticity, open communication, consent, and compassion. I will work with you to create a supportive relationship that is warmly attuned to your moment-to-moment experience, and reflects your innate goodness and dignity. I hold the view that all human behaviors and emotions are attempts to care for ourselves and others, even the ones which challenge us.
I utilize an approach which in informed by the wisdom of Internal Family Systems (IFS). I use this model to support clients in identifying the various parts of themselves which inform their behaviors and attitudes. Once identified, I provide a forum for these parts to be understood compassionately. This process allows for the resolution of inner conflict, and increased self-compassion and inner unity.
I use methods which will support your nervous system in accessing safety and releasing distress at the most foundational levels in the body. I integrate wisdom from somatic experiencing, polyvagal theory, sensorimotor, and attachment-focused approaches which will support you in healing, transforming, and releasing distress at the deepest levels of your being. This process will allow you to leverage the wisdom already present in your body to generate lasting change.
