About My Clients
I primarily work with children, adolescents, and teenagers, though I also provide support for adults. I help young people recognize and name their strong feelings, while empowering them with skills and strategies to manage overwhelming emotions. My approach equips clients with practical tools to address mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, low self‑esteem, emotional dysregulation, and stress.
My Background and Approach
Irene Nabalamba is a Licensed Certified Social Worker–Clinical (LCSW‑C) based in Washington County, Maryland, and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in West Virginia. She earned her Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, and brings extensive experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families. Irene takes a strengths‑based, client‑centered approach, meeting individuals where they are and equipping them with the tools to navigate life’s challenges with knowledge and empowerment. She specializes in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral concerns, and relationship difficulties. Her practice integrates evidence‑based modalities—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) techniques, and trauma‑informed care—to help clients manage emotional challenges, navigate life transitions, and achieve lasting change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a child therapist, I believe every child has unique strengths waiting to be discovered. Through play therapy, evidence‑based techniques, and family collaboration, I help children express themselves, build resilience, and develop the skills they need to thrive. I also recognize the vital role parents play in this journey, which is why I partner closely with families—offering guidance and practical tools that strengthen connections at home and beyond. My goal is not only to support your child, but to empower your entire family with lasting strategies for growth and well‑being. Together, we will explore your story, uncover patterns, and build tools that foster greater balance and fulfillment. Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you—it’s about reconnecting with your strengths, discovering new perspectives, and creating meaningful change.
