About My Clients
On the surface, you have everything under control - yet you carry an iceberg's worth of emotion underneath. It's difficult to give space to your feelings and thoughts, or to communicate them to others. You're stuck in unhelpful patterns, but change feels threatening. You feel lonely and you long to be seen, but you consistently put the needs of others before your own. I can help you understand yourself and your experiences, get out of your comfort zone, and tap into joy.
My Background and Approach
I have a Master's degree in Community Counseling from Seattle University and I am a licensed therapist in Oregon and Washington. I have specific training in Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP); but I like to pepper in concepts and skills from a wide variety of clinical styles. I worked in sex education in the past, and I tend to have a sex-positive and body-neutral lens. I recognize that many of my identities afford me certain privileges; I strive to stay aware of these, and to work with each client from a culturally humble perspective. First and foremost, I am a client-centered therapist; as such, I draw on these and other modalities flexibly, in order to best serve your individual needs. I will always endeavor to hold compassionate, non-judgmental space for you, while simultaneously challenging you to grow into the person you want to be, and the life you want to live.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are all capable of change, and that we each deserve compassion, acceptance, rest, and even joy. I believe that even difficult emotions are worthy of attention and respect. Many of our problems are related to the experiences that have shaped us, yet we have made it through - and still have the power to create lives that are rich with meaning and value, whatever our context. I believe that some of my identities afford me certain privileges, of which I strive to stay aware. I regard myself as a perpetual student, always learning. I am invested in promoting sex positivity and body acceptance, and practicing anti-racist therapy, which I consider to be lifelong processes rather than goals I can check off.
