About My Clients

You don’t have to spend the rest of your life simply surviving. I’m Ian Mearns, and I help adults heal from experiences that continue to shape their lives long after the crisis has passed. I support people facing anxiety, depression, childhood trauma, grief, relationship loss, and emotions that often go unspoken. If you feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or burdened by what you’ve carried alone, therapy can help you find greater stability, purpose, and control.

My Background and Approach

I believe meaningful change happens when clients feel safe enough to engage openly in therapy. Choosing to seek help takes courage, and I recognize the trust it takes to share the most personal parts of your life. Having experienced therapy myself, I know how important it is to feel respected, heard, and understood. Those experiences continue to shape how I practice today. Over the past 15 years, I have worked in foster care, community mental health, psychiatric hospitals, correctional settings, mental health courts, and with military veterans. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of how trauma, loss, mental illness, and life's challenges affect people from all walks of life. My commitment is to provide a compassionate, collaborative, and evidence-based environment where healing can occur. Together, we'll build insight, strengthen resilience, develop practical skills, and create meaningful, lasting change that extends well beyond the therapy room.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe meaningful change happens when clients feel safe enough to engage openly in therapy. Choosing to seek help takes courage, and I recognize the trust it takes to share the most personal parts of your life. I understand that vulnerability because I've been on both sides of the therapeutic relationship. Some of my own therapists helped transform my life, while others left me feeling rushed or unheard. Those experiences reinforced a lesson I carry into every session: every client deserves to feel respected, valued, and genuinely listened to. My responsibility extends beyond providing effective treatment. I am committed to creating a supportive, collaborative environment where healing can occur. Together, we'll focus on the goals that brought you to therapy, develop practical skills, gain deeper insight, and create meaningful, lasting change that continues long after therapy ends.
