My Background and Approach
Hunter has extensive experience providing therapeutic services across diverse populations and environments. His prior work includes leading a non-profit program for at-risk youth, where he focused on emotional regulation, communication, and vocational development. He also facilitated psycho-educational groups for adolescents, with an emphasis on social skills, emotional and behavioral regulation, and the exploration of leisure activities as healthy emotional outlets. Additionally, Hunter's clinical training included providing therapeutic support to incarcerated individuals over a two-year internship at a Pennsylvania State Prison, where he implemented group/individual therapy focused on adaptive skills, relationships, communication, trauma, and preparing for community reintegration. Hunter specializes in integrating evidence-based therapeutic modalities, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness-based interventions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm Hunter Downs, LPC, and I believe that everyone deserves a space to be truly seen and heard. My practice is built on the values of authenticity, acceptance, and growth. This means I actively support and welcome clients from all backgrounds, including the LGBTQIA+ community and those who support racial justice and equality. My space is a place for genuine, non-judgmental connection. In my own time, I support causes related to mental health advocacy and work to de-stigmatize seeking therapy. I use these values to ensure your experience here is always supportive, ethical, and tailored to your unique identity. I value transparency and showing up as a whole human, just as I ask my clients to do.
