About My Clients
Being an immigrant, a child of an immigrant, a world traveler or an int'l student has left you feeling disconnected and like you don't belong. You feel alone even though you are among people, busy with school, work and life. You are not alone. Many of us, who uprooted ourselves by choice of our own or someone else, experience these feelings. These feelings are normal. You're human. The isolation and lack of belonging are exhausting and you long to feel better about your life and future.
My Background and Approach
As an immigrant from Hong Kong, I understand Asian culture. I empathize with those who experience unique challenges, adjusting to living in the US or facing mental health and relationship issues. My approach is collaborative. I will you see you and hear you. Maybe you are looking for advice, to have someone tell you what to do to solve a problem. I try my best to refrain from doing this as I believe you have the answer within you. You are able. The process of uncovering your strengths is healing and life changing. Together, we can do this. I have experience working with individuals, couples and families. I also facilitate therapy groups. I worked at schools, children shelters, health centers, hospitals and with the military. This diverse experience helped me grow as a person and a therapist. It helped me to be compassionate, empathic, and to increase my ability to conceptualize cases with competence. To meet my clients where they are at and help them grow.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
“Life is like an EKG. It has ups and downs but it all evens out in the end” - TAJ. My husband wrote this poem when he was 12 and it was published in his school magazine. It’s true that life has ups and downs and eventually it evens out. However, before it evens out, I believe everyone wants to make the best of it. I believe in the power of being in relationships. Positive relationships are powerful. We are created for connections. Disconnections hurt us in all areas - physical, emotional and psychological. I will help you to be connected with yourself and others. When I first immigrated to the US 20 years ago, I felt isolated and lonely. I found comfort in my Christian faith and my church. It was and is still my safe haven. Spirituality has a positive correlation with overall health. Even though I am a Christian and active in my church, I respect all faiths and work with clients of all religious beliefs.
