About My Clients
I completed my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Human Services Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family. I returned to Cambodia to work for 5.5 more years, providing counseling services to English-speaking expatriates and Khmer nationals, having previously learned the language and culture. I am grateful for the path I took because it was full of valuable, real-life, on-the-ground experience coupled with “book knowledge.”
My Background and Approach
I started my counseling profession as a young child in my family system. Counseling others and mediating conflict was just something I naturally did. At the time, I did not realize it was an actual career. So, for me, I see being a counselor as more of a calling than a career. In my early twenties, I went overseas to teach English in Cambodia for two years. During this time, I continued to find myself in the role of a counselor. As such, I decided to return to the United States to pursue my studies.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have had the privilege of working cross-culturally with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and beliefs. I want to acknowledge your courage because I know what it is like to contact a counselor, having walked my own healing journey. I believe integrity is vital to the client-counselor relationship and the counseling process. Therefore, I do not believe in encouraging a client to go somewhere I am not willing to go myself.
