About My Clients
My clients are often high achieving, caring people who have a lot going for them, but tend to silently struggle with harsh inner critics, anxious tendencies, and shaky self-worth. They often prioritize others before themselves, and as a result struggle to locate their authentic feelings and express their needs. If you find yourself constricted by playing small or confined by the impact of anxiety on your mind and body, I’d love to offer you a free consultation to see if we're a good fit.
My Background and Approach
Inspired by my own experience as a client in therapy, I left my career of several years in marketing to pursue my passion for this work. While we may never be able to completely eliminate anxiety and other insecurities, I know from experience that we CAN learn to relate to these parts of ourselves in a much healthier way. We can learn to work with these emotions instead of against them, giving us more of a say in our own lives and the ease to more fully enjoy it. We will look at your past to make sense of why you are struggling with these issues in the first place. We’ll work to disentangle any resulting beliefs no longer serving you. And since healing can require more than talking, we’ll discover how these past experiences are still living in your body. We’ll learn to transform symptoms with mindfulness tools and breath work, so that you know how to care for yourself if symptoms arise. I also offer EMDR as a way to loosen the grip of traumatic memories on our bodies.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that our therapeutic relationship is what makes lasting internalization of all the therapeutic techniques we learn together possible. We are social animals - we are wired to best take in information within the context of a warm, calming and stable relationship. Additionally, studies support that a strong relationship is the most important factor in getting the most of your therapy. Fit is important, so if we meet and it doesn’t feel like a match, I want to support you in finding the right therapist for you. I believe that oppression is at the root of much of our pain. While systemic oppression impacts each of us uniquely and with varying intensity based on our individual social locations, it seeps into and shapes our psyches in ways that are harmful to us all. I believe that externalizing these harmful messages within us and strengthening our connection with our core selves underneath is essential to our healing both as individuals and collectively as a society.
