About My Clients
My clients have often experienced multiple traumas during their life and tend to have a hard time trusting others and building relationships (even though they often really want to!). They experience anxiety and have the urge to avoid in a way that gets in the way of living the life they would like to have. My clients also tend to struggle with self-confidence, engaging in a lot of second guessing, self-invalidation, and self-judgment.
My Background and Approach
I help my clients move towards the life they want to live by helping them gain insight into patterns keeping them stuck and teaching them tools to help them make change. Together, we identify how past trauma is impacting their beliefs about themselves, others, and the world around them and how this impacts their participation in the world. I also help my clients gain skills to be more present in the moment (mindfulness), get through a crisis without making it worse (distress tolerance), experience increased emotion regulation, and build and maintain positive relationships (interpersonal effectiveness). My goal is to help my clients adopt an exposure lifestyle, approaching what they might typically avoid, in order to help them get the life that they love to live.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a believer in practicing what you preach, which is why I maintain a consistent mindfulness practice and also use the DBT skills that I teach on a consistent basis in my own life. I also know that starting therapy and being vulnerable can be hard, so here are some fun facts about me: I am a cat lady, the neighborhood squirrel lady, and plant mama. Activities that fill my cup outside of being a therapist include watercolor painting, drawing, crochet, and reading. I look forward to hearing about your fun facts and what fills your cup!
