About My Clients
Some of the reasons my clients start therapy with me are being "sick and tired" of the chronic dieting, yo-yo weights, food obsession, restrictive eating and/or bingeing and purging and constant efforts to control their shape and weight. They want a healthier relationship with food and their bodies but don't know how to get there. There may be anxiety and/or depression as well and they may be at a point where their eating issues are impacting their relationships and functioning.
My Background and Approach
While I've been in the field of social work for over 20 years, my recent years of in depth experience and training has been in the area of eating disorders. As a woman who's grown up in a society that over-emphasizes food and body control and as a parent of teens myself, I am able to connect with both girls and women who struggle with these issues as well as their parents who are often desperately seeking help for their child who has developed an eating disorder. I work from a Health At Every Size perspective and utilize emotion focused interventions. For tweens and teens, I typically utilize Family Based Treatment (FBT) and for older teens and adults I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, however the approach may vary based on individual circumstances. Additionally, I believe in collaboration with other professionals working with my clients for best outcomes.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in the dignity and worth of each individual. I am frequently working with my clients to help them internalize this belief, learning to extend grace and compassion to themselves over time. I believe in meeting my clients where they are while also providing accurate education and guidance to help them live a life that is in alignment with their values and goals.
