About My Clients
***Taking new clients*** A majority of my clients come to therapy because they are not relating to partners or themselves the way they want to, whether that is isolating , clinging onto unhealthy relationships, looking outside of their partnership for companionship, or spiraling in self-hatred. These behaviors often stem from deep feelings of shame. Sometimes the root of these feelings are childhood trauma or disordered attachment.
My Background and Approach
I have been fortunate enough to work in the field of mental health for over a decade now. I use and teach strategies to help people live more fully in the moment and start seeing reality for what it is through a lens of nonjudgment. Learning ways to offer ourselves self-compassion is woven throughout my work, because most of us (myself included) struggle to be kind to ourselves. Shame keeps us stuck in patterns that are not helpful. Once we cut through the shame this often opens people up to dig deeper into the hurt they are experiencing. It is my experience that people relate to themselves or others in a counterproductive way because they are trying to meet needs. We will find out what those needs are and find more helpful ways for those needs to be met. My primary modalities are Mindful-Based Cognitive Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, CBT, and DBT skills.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
l believe all beings (INCLUDING YOU) have innate value and deserve compassion. I am a wife, a mama of three amazing kids adopted from the foster care system, and am fortunate to be a part of a transracial family.
