When scary things happen for children, it can be difficult for a child to manage their internal experience and understand what is going on. Scary things such as medical procedures, car accidents, death of a loved one, and witnessing violence can create trauma symptoms and reactions for children (and adults!). Therapy supports your family in finding ways to understand the situation and your child's reaction and help them organize their emotions and feel better.

Working with younger children requires a different way of communicating. Play is the language of the child and I support your child in managing their anxiety, sadness, anger, and outbursts. I also support you as a parent in helping your child learn skills that can help them manage. Our goal is to help your young child feel better and help you feel confident in supporting them.

When you are unsure what your child is dealing with, psychological testing may be helpful. Testing can help us understand your child's strengths as well as areas that need support. This could include be concerns about a learning disorder, attention difficulties (ADHD), or understanding if they are struggling with depression, anxiety, or other issues. Testing can also help you and your child understand their personality and provides recommendations about how to best support them.
