About My Clients
My practice is dedicated to adolescence and early adult mental health. These times are distinct from childhood and adulthood, and require support that acknowledges those differences. My clients range from middle school through early adulthood and are facing a range of problems, including friendship challenges, anxiety, depression, application or adjustment to college, self esteem, chronic health issues, and more.
My Background and Approach
I draw heavily from Narrative Therapy principles and positioning, and believe that no person is a problem. Narrative Therapy teaches a worldview that is consistent with social justice ethics and sensitive to power dynamics, both of which are important to me in practice. With ten years of experience working primarily with adolescents and young adults, I am well-versed in developmental theory and challenges unique to this population. In session I am warm, person-centered, and strengths-based. I also draw on many modalities including CBT, DBT, and ACT, to support clients and their individual needs. My clients know me to be quick to laughter and calm in hard moments. I believe in bringing my whole self into therapy, but hold appropriate boundaries to keep our sessions focused on you. I’ve been known to work music, reality tv, and client interests into our work together, and believe we can learn so much from the things we enjoy in our day to day lives.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
It is important to me to be clear about my values as a therapist. I am LGBTQIA affirming and have supported many clients in navigating gender and sexual identity exploration. I am weight neutral, and explicitly reject diet culture and anti-fat bias. I am against racism and oppression and continue to seek education on the systems that harm marginalized groups. I work to provide care that is both trauma informed and sensitive to the many intersecting identities that we all hold. As a social worker, this often means naming and understanding the systems that harm and impact us all. If you have concerns about my values, politics, or beliefs you are welcome to ask at any time. Therapy is political and it is important to feel safe and aligned in a therapeutic space.
