About My Clients

Your emotions sweep you off your feet— but not always in a good way. You use substances, food, or other habits to try and escape these feelings, but ultimately the underlying causes go unaddressed. There’s nothing wrong with having big emotions, but maybe you’d rather learn how to ride these waves instead of feeling like you’re drowning.

My Background and Approach

I strive to help you understand then accept all the different aspects of yourself, even those you might find scary or shameful. We are all just trying to make sense of a world that is at times filled with pain and uncertainty. Appreciating your different parts helps with taking charge to make decisions that truly align with the values you hold and the life you want to live. // I believe that the relationship between client and therapist is essential for healing, so it’s important that we both show up authentically for sessions. You can rest assured that I won’t be a “blank slate” when we meet. I feel that therapy is a two-way street, where you are free to ask questions, give feedback, and challenge me at times. I am not here to tell you what to do or how to feel, but to journey alongside you as you learn more about who you are and how you came to be. Then we can figure out how to bridge the gap between your real life and ideal life.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

“The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.” ~Alice Walker // Systemic racism, homophobia, sexism, and all the other “isms” harm and traumatize people, there’s no doubt about that. However, joy and health serve as forms of resistance. I seek to navigate systems of oppression with my clients so that you can cultivate happiness in spite of hate and intolerance. My therapeutic approach is to validate the very real forces and events outside of your control, while identifying how you are able to empower yourself. // I also believe that we as humans are dynamic beings who ultimately aspire towards improvement and growth. During childhood and other life experiences, we may pick up coping mechanisms or traumas that inhibit us from realizing our goals and dreams. I feel that relational healing and community can help us grow and overcome our past hardships. One of my goals in therapy is to help you develop and nurture healthy relationships.
