As a therapist working with depression, I utilize an in-depth knowledge of the various types of depression, their symptoms, and underlying causes. I display proficiency in evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also encourage the client to engage in behavioral activation to utilize activities that improve mood and reduce depressive symptoms and increase self-empowerment.

While working with a client dealing with anxiety, we will focus on identifying triggers, utilizing exposure therapy to gradually expose the client to anxiety-provoking situations in a controlled manner to reduce fear and avoidance. While also incorporating mindfulness and relaxation techniques to manage the stress and anxiety.

The techniques I employ as a CBT therapist are cognitive restructuring to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and replace them with more balanced and realistic thoughts. behavioral activation to encourage clients to engage in activities that improve mood and reduce symptoms of depression. Lastly, skills training, to teach clients practical skills such as problem-solving, stress management, and assertiveness.

When utilizing ACT therapy, I focus primarily on acceptance to embrace thoughts and feelings without trying to change them. Cognitive defusion to learn to perceive thoughts and feelings as just thoughts, not as truths. Staying in the present moment and being aware of your thoughts and feelings without judgment.

Somatic therapy is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the connection between the mind and body in the healing process. In sessions, I will assist the client in understanding their mind-body connection, identifying somatic symptoms of emotions, breathing techniques, and movement to release stored trauma in the body.
