About My Clients
I specialize in children and adolescents ages 3 to 18 years, and young adults up to age 39ish. For young children, I incorporate play, and often offer a combination of direct therapy and parent consult with the goal of effectively supporting the child in the home environment. I really enjoy working with adolescents and young adults as well, including college students. I enjoy spending time getting to really know you and your strengths, challenges, and goals before we get down to business!
My Background and Approach
I specialize in anxiety, depression and mood disorders, ADHD/ADD, life transitions and adjustments, stress management, behavior management, and parenting education and consultation. I often utilize behavior modification, solution-focused interventions, cognitive behavioral strategies, and mindfulness techniques. I am also a certified yoga teacher, and enjoy building tenets of this practice into my sessions when relevant. I will spend time getting to know you, and I will seek to understand your strengths, challenges, and goals, and I will match treatment modalities to most effectively fit you. We will work together on achieving your goals! For children, I often use a combination of direct therapy working on feelings identification and positive coping skills, and working with parents on ideas for supporting their child in the home environment. I focus on positive behavior management, and am trained in behavior therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I seek to give every person who chooses me as a therapist a safe place to BE....and to discuss any issues or concerns on his/her/their minds. In our first session, we will discuss relevant background and set goals, and we will continue to monitor progress throughout therapy, making adjustments as needed. I am passionate about my work, and I will be as invested as you are in your progress! I volunteer with the Virginia Medical Reserve Corps, making myself available to help with medical crises throughout the state as needed.
