About My Clients
Working with the dual disordered or co-occurring population for the past 15 years allows me to help the majority of individuals with behavioral health concerns. As an EMDR therapist I also can effectively help reduce the negative impact that trauma may have in your life. Change is a difficult process that I can help you navigate with my compassionate use of evidenced based practices to holistically focus on your concerns. My therapeutic relationship is based on respect, honest & trust.
My Background and Approach
Heavily grounded in Motivational Interviewing means that the therapeutic relationship is about compassionate care and collaboratively working on promoting change in your life through the use of other evidenced based practices like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. Over my 25 years of behavioral health experience, I have worked in community behavioral health, inpatient hospitals, residential facilities, college clinics and now in my own private practice. Although I typically work with adults individually, I have worked with kids and teens as well as couples and families. Additionally I am an adjunct faculty member at Kent State University in their counselor education program. Based on my years of experience and my advanced education, I am confident I can help alleviate your stress and worries and elevate your mood and day to day functioning.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
All relationships are based on 3 elements: Respect, Honesty & Trust - - you need all 3 elements for a healthy relationship or you do not have a relationship. Additionally knowing that we all experience ambivalence to making changes in our lives is crucial to understanding how to make positive changes that lead to recovery! Growth and recovery is what I am all about, in fact my practice's motto is "Recovery is within Reach". Too often clients have been misdiagnosed, resulting in improper care. By focusing on you holistically, it allows me to get to the root of the issue at hand...which then can lead to positive changes!
