About My Clients
In my practice, I work with people trying to make sense of their past experiences while at the same time struggling with managing stress in the present. My goal in counseling is to come alongside you to learn how you understand and experience the world, and from there to provide you with the tools to empower yourself to make choices about how to live a life that better aligns with your personal values and goals.
My Background and Approach
In life, there is so much to fear and to avoid. Often, the strategies we use to escape our pain only serve to sap our time and energy and end up moving us further away from the kind of person we want to be. Learning to face and accept painful realities can open up the space for more joy. When we learn to be more conscious of where we spend our energy and how we respond to challenges, we can interrupt patterns that are no longer serving us and commit to what matters most. My primary treatment methods include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), narrative approach, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic work, and mindful self-compassion strategies. I aim to help you cope with difficult thoughts, behaviors, and emotions in order to accept the past, be mindful of the present, and work towards a meaningful future.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that there are no bad parts and that we are all doing the best we can. The "negative" behaviors and strategies that keep us stuck exist because at one point in our lives, we needed them, and now, we don't know how to let go. However, when we know better, we do better. I myself am a lifelong learner, striving to stay open to new possibilities and ways of approaching the world. I find meaning and value in both the natural world and spirituality, the physical body and the thinking mind. My hobbies include playing video games, training my dog, dancing, crafting, foraging, and looking for new hobbies to obsess over for a few months before I inevitably get excited about something new! I identify as neurodivergent and a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
